Sunshine
Sunshine is a remarkably pretty film, and if you are capable of ignoring everything you’ve ever learned about physics, everything you know about logic or common sense, and everything that any character says or does for the duration of the film, then you might even enjoy it.

Is it like The Core, but in space?

Yes, but… more.
It’s the Sun, rather than the centre of the Earth, so there’s more scale for the dumb to happen in. Honestly, my brain sort of glazed over after 20 minutes or so. I think it was some manner of hardwired primitive survival response.
It does look lovely, though.

I saw the trailer for this just before 300 (I think) it looked pretty bad. It seemed to be mainly about sending a bunch of people to their deaths by putting them in a tin can and firing them at the sun to help prevent some global catastrophe.
I think the solution to a similar problem was addressed in Futurama by having all the world’s robots “cut the cheese” in a group to push the planet further away from the star. I’m not sure which one is the more daft.

I’ve just recently seen this and it does look pretty, but everything else was, as you’ve said, kinda.. dumb. It reminded me of event horizon, but without any intelligence, survival instincts, gruesome bits, or funny scenes.. i.e. “oh shit”.
Doing it for the greater good of mankind. I’d have to say that if those people represented mankind, I’d have been gunning for an extinguished star.
