Digital Packrat
As I was spelunking through my email archive folder today, I came to a horrible realisation. I have over 9 year’s worth of collected film and music listings from various cinema and ticket sales mailing lists. I never used to feel bad about this until it struck me today that this is just the digital equivalent of being one of those lunatics with an attic containing every copy of the Radio Times since 1958.
Action is being taken.
On a related note: for the entire time I lived in Edinburgh, I tried to get the Filmhouse to send me their weekly listing mail. They seemed against the idea. No matter how many mail addresses I registered, they’d periodically send me a list for a couple of weeks and then slowly tail off, and after that no amount of pleading would convince them to send any more.
Then, eventually, I moved out of Edinburgh and after a few months, mails started arriving from the Filmhouse. Every week, without fail, there would be a list of the films playing in a city where I no longer lived. It’s been over a year and a half now, and they’re still sending them, no matter how many times I ask to be taken off the list.
We’re living in the future, and the future is stupid.
