Wikipod

This here is a script that will upload a user-specified set of Wikipedia pages onto recent-model iPods in the form of hyperlinked notes.

It’ll potentially be able to copy the entire Wikipedia archive minus images if you’re patient enough. In text format, the entire archive only takes up about 1.1Gb, which will even fit on the smallest iPod nanos.

(This is another proper ’sensawunda’ moment for me. Never mind being able to carry around your entire music collection on a thing smaller than a deck of cards; using that same £100 device to carry around a huge great chunk of the entirety of human knowledge still stuns me with how indescribably wonderful technology is.)

Sorry, did you just equate wikipedia with a real encylopedia? As opposed to, say, a huge collection of Star Wars trivia?

  2. Paul Says:

No, duh. It’s a huge collection of Star Wars trivia and articles stolen directly from the Encyclopedia Britanica.

(And a whole bunch of running edit-battles on Intardnet-famous people’s vanity definition pages.)
