Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
The Metro today had this here story about schoolkids using the ‘mosquito’ alarm sound as their mobile phone ringtones in class. The idea is that it’s a high-pitched sound which they can hear, but most people over 20 can’t.
So that’s all well and good, except, well, it’s absolute bollocks. Here’s a copy of the sound, and if you can’t hear it then you might want to see a doctor some time soon. It’s like a really loud version of the “TV on an empty AV channel” noise.
(For the record, I’m 26 and do not have good hearing. It’s been destroyed by many evenings standing in front of large speakers listening to the noisy Rock and/or Roll music.)

I can only just about hear it. Claire can hear it fine. I can however hear sounds of a much lower tone than she can.
