2005 Wrapup

Year end wrap-up time, then.

Essentially, 2005 can go fuck itself with a wooden plank wrapped in barbed wire. If I’d known in advance what the year would be like then I’d have just gone and hidden in a cave instead.

Ahem.

I’d write a “worst of” 2005 list, but it would wind up being the length of a small novel, so let’s attempt to be positive for once and do a “best of” instead.

<smallprint>List is non-exhaustive and may be changed at a later date as the shattered fragments of the author’s memory reassemble themselves after the festive period.</smallprint>

Best Album (according to iTunes reportage of the embarrassing number of times I’ve listened to it)

The Meadowlands - The Wrens

Best Lyrics (in an album which came out last year but I only heard this year so get off my back. Jeez, seriously.)

The Swish - The Hold Steady (from Almost Killed Me)

Best 2 Minute Section of Music (Since the end of Alec Eiffel)

The “Hey-la”s at the end of The Bleeding Heart Show - The New Pornographers (from 2:40 if you feel like listening.)

Best Live Show (at the Worst Venue)

Gang of Four at The Barbican

Best Music Video (Even though Everyone on Earth has now seen it)

The JCB Song - Nizlopi

Best Venue (Based on the most fuzzy metric in this list)

Borderline - London

Best Book (in an “I can’t really explain why it’s so great, and you might hate it if you’re not me”- kind of way)

Anansi Boys - Neil Gaiman

Best Movie (by a country mile)

Sin City

Best Movie (if you’re a humourless, overly-sensitive Daily Mail reader who didn’t like Sin City)

The Constant Gardener

Game of the Year (From the admittedly few I’ve played)

Civilisation 4

Game Where All of My Time Went (even though I’ve still hardly progressed in it at all)

World of Warcraft

Handheld Game of the Year (which may actually have come out last year…)

Meteos

Best Game for 5 Days (after which I never played it again)

Burnout Revenge
