So close and yet so far
A day of strangely frustrating news.
First up, Steamboy opens in U.S. cinemas today. No sign of a UK release however. Apparently movie studios still don’t understand why Bittorrent is so huge. Also, since we know that the UK leads the world in T.V. downloads, it’s no surprise to hear that the new Doctor Who episode may have been leaked deliberately as a viral marketing ploy.
George Lucas describes Star Wars Episode 3 as being ‘Titanic’ in space. Please have your clichés at the ready. I’m pretty sure that the concept has already been done better though.
A TV advert for marmite has been reprimanded for scaring children. The ad parodies ‘The Blob‘, with people either running from, or diving into, a huge glob of the stuff. I can sort of understand this one though; something about the whole enveloping, suffocating darkness element. It’s why the bit in Duck Amuck, with the frame squeezing in on Daffy still creeps me out to this day.
Finally, in keeping with the ridiculous watches theme, this looks neat too. The frustrating element is that, as far as I can tell, it doesn’t have a binary display mode.
