Edinburgh pubs are considerably less annoying once the student population has buggered off home for the holidays.
Even ultra-pretentious places like Centraal have sofa space left, which never happens during term time. It’s amazing how quickly you can go from being a student yourself to being strangely glad when there are none of them left around the town.
Generally, the students make Edinburgh a much more interesting place, but when all you want is a nice pub with comfy seats to chat with your friends in on a Friday night, it’s much easier to achieve when they’re not around.
