He Looks So Happy With His Giant Centipede

A man in Islington found an example of the world’s largest species of centipede, Scolopendra gigantea, crawling up his living room wall. He trapped the highly venemous invertebrate in a plastic tub and took it to the Natural History museum for identification. It’s assumed that it got into the country by hitching a ride with some imported fruit or electrical goods.

The article has one of the best quotes I’ve ever read:

Stuart Hine, Manager of the Natural History Museum’s Insect Identification Service, said ‘Large and exotic invertebrates are transported with goods all the time but you would expect that something of this size and ferocity to be discovered long before it reached the haven of someone’s home. Aaron was incredibly brave to have tackled this centipede as he did’.
