Beltane 2005
Some photos from this year’s Beltane Fire Festival.
Most of them aren’t great. The combination of a fairly basic camera, bright objects on a dark background, long exposure times, and constant jostling from the crowd put paid to that. The batteries in my camera were also running out, so I couldn’t really spend much time mucking about with settings with the view screen on.
This is the first time I’ve gone to Beltane since they started ticketing it, and there definitely seemed to be fewer drunken morons than usual. We didn’t have to constantly look out for randomly flailing people knocking us down the hill, which was nice.
I think it was pretty well done this year. I know next to nothing about what all the symbolism is meant to mean (and don’t especially care,) so I was mainly there for all the pretty fire. Lots of fire and dancing is almost always a good thing.
