My proto-eBay meme has been a bit of a disappointment. Searching for “Unwanted Present” only returns a single page of results. I was hoping for a huge cavalcade of terrible Christmas gift ideas. Maybe it’s too soon though. With luck, things will pick up over the next day or two.

By this time tomorrow I’ll most likely be in a chicken-/potato-/sugar-/lard-induced coma, so I’ll take this chance to wish you all a happy festive wossname.
Have fun whatever you end up doing, but not this much fun:

An infuriatingly part-great, part-dreadful “best music of 2005″ list from Other Music
Prior to his funeral, Alistair Cook’s bones may have been surgically stolen and sold on the black market.
Another “If we can stop just one terrorist, won’t it all have been worth it” excuse for watching uk citizens’ every move.
A voting error may have been [...]

Sitting in an almost deserted tube carriage on the way to Heathrow yesterday, I think I saw the most retro-techno thing ever.
A family get onto the train (middle-aged parents and 20-something son) and sit opposite me. Almost immediately the father pulls out his mobile phone and starts yapping away loudly. That’s ok though, because I [...]

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
I can’t really say I enjoyed this. I love the stories, but the movie just didn’t hang together at all. It’s like they spent the entire budget on Aslan’s fur rather than on a scriptwriter. Most of the characters seemed off somehow; the only really convincing ones were Lucy, [...]

Anansi Boys - Neil Gaiman
One of my favourite books of the year, and, I think, the best novel that Gaiman’s done. It borrows a character from American Gods - other than that the books aren’t really linked - and tells the story of a man discovering that his recently deceased father was really an African [...]

Some shows that I went to a while back but have been too lazy to write anything about until now:
The Wrens - Borderline and Camden Barfly
They were absolutely great. The Meadowlands album has finally been released in the UK, and was getting some good press in the NME, so they came over to play 2 [...]

A fuel depot near Hemel Hempsted exploded early this morning. The blast was allegedly heard in parts of Holland.
I realise that this is the wrong thought to be having about it all, but isn’t this an amazing picture:

Coverflow is a fun OS X app that lets you browse your music collection by album artwork. (Warning: It’s really damn slow if you throw a large collection of songs at it.)

You already knew that Ferrofluids were cool, right? Well, look what happens when a drop is placed between 2 glass sheets with a rotating [...]

Title says it all really. This comes shortly after they bought Flickr, where nothing much seems to have changed as a result of the acquisition (e.g. it’s still slower than a slug that’s been superglued and stapled to the ground,) so it’ll be interesting to see if anything happens to del.icio.us as a result.
I think [...]
